What is tinnitus? Tinnitus is the name given to the condition where a person hears sounds that aren't produced externally. If you are the only person to hear the sounds then it's called 'subjective' tinnitus. If your doctor can hear the sounds as well -- using an audio device -- then this is called 'objective' tinnitus. Subjective tinnitus is much more widespread.
The symptoms for tinnitus -- the sounds you hear -- vary from person to person. If you are hearing sounds like; ringing, ticking, knocking, hissing, clicking, whooshing, etc., and they aren't coming from an external source, then you have tinnitus. And if your doctor / specialist can't hear the sounds during testing then the symptoms for tinnitus you are experiencing point to subjective tinnitus.
